The Aiken High School Rotary Interact Club is supporting the Rotary Club of Aiken’s campaign to fight Alzheimer’s Disease for all the obvious, admirable reasons. We are, after all, a service organization and this is an important service project.
However, there is one reason to seek a cure for this awful affliction that you may not have considered. As Baby Boomers age and the incidence of Alzheimer’s doubles or triples or more [https://www.alzforum.org/news/conference-coverage/alzheimers-incidence-rising-not-falling-researcher-says], who will have to pay for care and treatment of those who suffer from Alzheimer’s?
Who will pay? You will.
Today’s students will face a terrible financial burden if we cannot cure this horrible illness as soon as possible.
So let’s do what we can to help those afflicted with this malady because we truly believe in Service above Self.
But keep in mind that there’s nothing wrong with staving off financial ruin for today’s high school students. Let’s not doom our students (yes, you) to an impoverished future.
If that’s selfish, fine, then let’s be selfish.
